HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1914W
Mr. GILBERT

asked the Minister of Munitions whether all soldiers brought back from the Army to do munitions work are given a choice as to the establishment at which they shall work?

Dr. ADDISON

Soldiers released from the Army for munitions work come under two categories: (1) Individual soldiers who are released to a particular employer in response to that employer's application for their services; and (2) those who are released in bulk, and are sent to firms who have applied to the Ministry for labour without specifying any particular man. In the case of individual releases, the soldier is not released under that category unless he is willing to take up work with the firm applying for him. In the case of bulk releases, all soldiers released under that category have previously signed an agreement expressing their willingness to work in any establishment named by the Minister and for so long as required.
