§ Mr. GINNELLasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will state the number of persons arrested in Ceylon between 1st June and 1st September, 1915, detained in prison without charge, and released without trial; the number of these in respect of whom payments were made "to obtain their release; and under what law those payments for release of untried prisoners were exacted?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWI cannot give the total number of persons so arrested, but I have no reason to believe that in any cases payments have been exacted from untried prisoners.
