HC Deb 21 August 1916 vol 85 c2298W
Mr. WARDLE

asked the Secretary of State for War whether it is proposed to destroy the Territorial designation and character of the Reserve battalions of the Army, both Regular and Territorial, and give them consecutive numbers only; whether this proposal, if contemplated, has been laid before the Territorial Associations; and, if so, can he state what opinion has been expressed by such associations as to the effect upon local patriotism of the obliteration of all reference to the town or county from which recruits are drawn?

Mr. FORSTER

There is no intention of destroying the Territorial designation or character of the Reserve battalions, Special Reserve or Territorial Force. What is being done is to form a training reserve from the second reserve and local reserve regular battalions, all of which have been formed during the War. I will furnish my hon. Friend with a leaflet explaining the object of the training reserve and the method of its formation.
