HC Deb 21 August 1916 vol 85 c2310W
Mr. BOOTH

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many gallons of petrol were reported by enemy aliens in Great Britain as being in their possession at the recent census; whether any requests were made by Germans, or by other persons for the use of Germans, of any allotment of petrol; what grants were made; and what steps, if any, is he taking to prevent the use of petrol by motor and taxi-cab drivers in providing rides to enemy aliens in this country?

Mr. PRETYMAN

I am afraid that it is scarcely practicable to give the information asked for in the first three parts of my hon. Friend's question. The imposition of restrictions in the use of motors and taxi-cabs by enemy aliens is a matter for the Home Office to consider, but I may perhaps point out that an enemy alien may not travel more than five miles from his registered place of residence without a permit from the registration officer?
