HC Deb 21 August 1916 vol 85 cc2306-7W
Mr. JOWETT

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he will make inquiries into the complaint of Mr. William Harrison against the Bradford Local Tribunal, Mr. Harrison having stated that on 27th June last, his name being first on the list for hearing was called at 11.5 a.m., whereupon he intimated to the policeman who was acting as doorkeeper that he desired his case to be heard in public, and the doorkeeper, after consulting with the tribunal, reported to him that the room was very small and would not hold more than two persons beside the applicant in addition to the persons already in the room; on this message being reported to him, Mr. Harrison replied that he had twelve friends with him who wished to hear the case, which reply was duly conveyed to the tribunal, and a second message was returned by the tribunal to the effect that the case must wait and Mr. Harrison did wait until he felt it necessary to inquire whether his case was going to be heard at all that day, which inquiry the tribunal considered and then decided to admit Mr. Harrison and his twelve friends and, in fact, admitted in all about twenty persons, who found on entering the room that there was still room for as many more as had been admitted; and whether, if he finds the circumstances were as they are here stated, he will advise the Bradford Local Tribunal to be more truthful and more considerate in future?
