HC Deb 04 February 1915 vol 69 cc158-9W
Mr. TOUCHE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, with a view to allaying anxiety concerning the loss of capital values which exists amongst small investors who purchased Consols through the medium of the Post Office Savings Bank and now fear that the result of the unavoidable competition of the War Loan is depressing the course of prices, he can hold out any indication that the desirability of taking special measures for strengthening the position of Consols will be considered in connection with the general financial programme of the Government?

Mr. ACLAND

I cannot say more than that the effect of new borrowing on the price of Consols and other existing securities is being and will be carefully watched by my right hon. Friend.
