HC Deb 26 November 1914 vol 68 cc1335-6W
Mr. WATT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the loss incurred by seasonal hotels in August and September by the absence of visitors owing to the War; whether he is aware that this loss has in many instances prevented the licence holders getting the advantage of the concession granted under the Finance (1909–10) Act, 1910, where the drawings, other than those on liquor, reached one-third of the whole drawings; and that this means that these hotel-keepers are twice struck by the misfortune of the War; and whether he proposes to make a temporary concession to them?

Mr. MONTAGU

My right hon. Friend's attention has not previously been called to the loss to which my hon. Friend refers, nor is he aware of any case in which a claim to the seasonal hotel concession provided by the Finance (1909–10) Act, 1910, has been refused since the outbreak of the War; but if my hon. Friend will furnish me with the particulars of the cases he has in mind, I will have inquiry made.
