HC Deb 04 May 1914 vol 62 cc50-1W
Mr. HENRY M'LAREN

asked the Post master-General (1) whether, in reference to the establishment of a call-office at Swannington, near Leicester, and the suggested guarantee for the working of this, he will state the estimated cost of supplying and maintaining this call-office; and (2) whether he has received a letter from the parish council of Swannington, near Leicester, stating that they are willing to guarantee the annual sum of £13 with the view of having a call-office established in the village; whether he will at once take steps to have this call-office established; and whether he will state what receipts will go towards the reduction of the liability incurred by the council?

Captain NORTON

The estimated annual cost of providing and maintaining a call-office at Swannington is £13. A letter has been received from the parish council offering to guarantee this sum, and steps are being taken to provide the service. The guarantee account will be credited with the fees paid in respect of the use of the call-box at Swannington—that is, one penny in respect of each local "all and twopence in respect of each trunk call originated there.
