§ Mr. KEIR HARDIEasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that in a Paper read recently by Dr. Friedberger, before the Berlin Medical Society, he showed that vaccine, as as present manufactured, is full of extraneous microbes which are killed by exposure to ultra violet rays; and whether his Department will suspend the production of vaccine until a pure virus can be cultivated with which an adequate guarantee can be given that it will be protective against small-pox and that its use cannot produce serious illness or death?

In reply to the latter part of the question, I am advised that the glycerinated calf lymph supplied by the Local Government Board is satisfactory, and, in the circumstances, I see no reason for suspending its production.
