HC Deb 26 February 1914 vol 58 c1963W
Sir THOMAS ESMONDE

asked the Chief Secretary if he will consider the desirability of winding up the Constabulary Force Fund in view of the facts that the capital of the fund has now reached nearly £380,000, and that the number of subscribers to it now serving is only about 800?

Mr. BIRRELL

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the question on this subject asked by the hon. Member for South Sligo on the 24th instant.

Mr. FETHERSTONHAUGH

asked the Chief Secretary if, in any pending legislation for the improvement of the position of the Royal Irish Constabulary, he will favourably consider the desirability of shortening the punishment imposed on those constables who marry or have married without leave, and consider whether it would be sufficient punishment, added to the ordinary incidents, if a constable so marrying was subjected to the disabilities at present imposed for a period of three or five years for marriage without leave?

Mr. BIRRELL

The matter referred to by the hon. Member will be fully considered before any legislation affecting the Royal Irish Constabulary is introduced.
