asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will state for England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, respectively, the total number of persons insured under the National Insurance Act; the amount of the Insurance Fund; the amount paid in benefits; and the amount accumulated for future benefits and reserve?

The information asked for by the hon. Member is given, as far as possible, in the following statement. It should, however, be pointed out that the actual amount of benefits paid cannot be ascertained until audited returns have been received from the societies and branches (some 20,000) and insurance committees responsible for administering the benefits:—
