§ Lord NINIAN CRICHTON-STUARTasked the President of the Board of Education how many Catholic head masters applied for the position of assistant inspector of elementary schools last year; how many were selected for interview; and whether any minimum academical qualification for fitness for the posts was laid down?
Mr. PEASEI made no inquiries as to the religious beliefs of any of the candidates, but fourteen head masters of Roman Catholic schools applied, three were selected for interview. No minimum academic qualification for fitness for the post of assistant inspector was laid down by the Board, but candidates were informed that "regard would be had to character, general ability, educational qualifications (both academical and professional), experience in the teaching and conduct or organisation of schools, and to any other evidence of fitness for the office of assistant inspector."
