HC Deb 17 February 1914 vol 58 cc786-7W
Mr. EDGAR JONES

asked the President of the Board of Education what was the total sum in salary for the whole period of apprenticeship received by a pupil teacher commencing in the year 1898 in an average town where large pupil teacher schools existed; and the total sum that a student will now receive under the new bursar scheme?

Mr. J. A. PEASE

As regards the first part of the question, I can only refer the hon. Member to the information contained in the Report of the Departmental Committee on the Pupil Teacher System, dated 12th January, 1898 [C. 8761]. As regards the second part, the Board do not determine the rate of the maintenance allowance which local education authorities may give to bursars, and I am unable to say what the average rate is likely to be.
