HC Deb 12 February 1914 vol 58 cc339-40W
Lord CHARLES BERESFORD

also asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he can now inform the House whether the medal for operations in the Persian Gulf, carried out by officers and men in the Navy in the years 1909–12, has yet been granted; and, if not, will he say why it has not yet been given?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The operations in the Persian Gulf referred to were not of a kind for which the Indian Service Medal could be awarded, and it has been necessary to consider whether services such as those in question can be recognised by some other appropriate medal. No final decision has yet been arrived at.
