HC Deb 02 April 1914 vol 60 c1376W
Mr. CROOKS

also asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he has yet decided that the stoppage of 2s. weekly for the use of tools charged against the wheelwrights in the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, is unjust, and that they will in future be paid the full rate, without this unfair reduction of wages for tools which never become the property of the men?

Mr. H. BAKER

It is the custom of this trade for men to provide their own tools. Those employed in the Army Ordnance Department at Woolwich have tools provided for them by the public, and are thus relieved of expense. The reduction of wages on this account is not 2s., but 6d. per week, and is not unfair to the men.
