HC Deb 31 July 1913 vol 56 cc750-1W
Mr. LLOYD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give figures showing the tonnage and value of steam coal exported from the United Kingdom in 1912 to foreign countries and for the use of our own mercantile marine, respectively?

Mr. BUXTON

Forty-four million eight hundred and sixty-one thousand tons of steam coal, valued at £28,838,000, were exported to foreign countries in 1912, much of which was no doubt destined for coaling depots abroad to be used ultimately by British vessels. Eighteen million two hundred and ninety-one thousand tons of bunker coal were shipped on foreign-going vessels at United Kingdom ports, and 2,253,000 tons on coasting vessels, but no separate information is available as to the quantity shipped on vessels sailing under the British flag.

Mr. LLOYD

also asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give figures showing the tonnage and value of coal exported from the United Kingdom in 1912 to foreign countries and British Possessions, respectively

Mr. BUXTON

The exports of coal from the United Kingdom to foreign countries in 1912 amounted to 62,469,000 tons, valued at £39,051,000; those to British possessions amounted to 1,976,000 tons, valued at £1,444,000.
