HC Deb 11 February 1913 vol 48 cc734-5W
Mr. BARNES

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty if the guardian of a boy whose father was killed in action in the Boer war has the same right of privilege of nomination of the boy as a boy artificer for the Navy as if he were the boy's father?

Dr. MACNAMARA

Certain flag officers are allowed to recommend a limited number of candidates with Service claims for nomination by the Admiralty as boy artificer after a qualifying examination. If the boy referred to is eligible under the Regulations, it would be open to his guardian to apply for a recommendation. The conditions are shown in the printed Regulations, of which I will send my hon. Friend a copy.
