§ Mr. J. A. PEASENo increase was made in the higher administrative staff of the Board of Education during the year 1906. The permanent clerical staff was increased during that year from 521 to 601. The condition stated in the answer which I gave to the hon. Member on 3rd February, which is not accurately reproduced in the question under reply, was not suggested to the Treasury by the Board of Education, either officially or semi-officially.
