HC Deb 11 February 1913 vol 48 c735W
Mr. CHARLES DUNCAN

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he can give particulars of the increase in the staff of the Board during the year 1906, distinguishing between the patronage-appointed higher staff and the clerical staff; and whether the condition that lower grade clerks should be compelled to lose their Saturday half-holiday when on overtime was in the first place suggested to the Treasury by the Board of Education, either officially or semi-officially?

Mr. J. A. PEASE

No increase was made in the higher administrative staff of the Board of Education during the year 1906. The permanent clerical staff was increased during that year from 521 to 601. The condition stated in the answer which I gave to the hon. Member on 3rd February, which is not accurately reproduced in the question under reply, was not suggested to the Treasury by the Board of Education, either officially or semi-officially.
