HC Deb 04 February 1913 vol 47 cc2002-3W
Mr. FRANCIS MEEHAN

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that the tenants on the Rossinver portion of the Johnston estate, Kinlough, county Leitrim, petitioned the Estates Commissioners in reference to the terms under which they were compelled to purchase their holdings, the flooding of the lands, the making of roads, and the redistribution of the waste lands on that portion of the estate; whether these matters will be inquired into previous to the purchase money being advanced; and when will the estate be vested?

Mr. BIRRELL

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to his question on the subject on the 20th January. The petition for the tenants referred to has not yet been received by the Estates Commissioners.

Mr. FRANCIS MEEHAN

also asked whether the Estates Commissioners have received applications from Charles M'Keon, of Kinkellew, and James Meehan, of Cortoon, evicted tenants on the Whynne estate, Ballaghameehan, county Leitrim, for grants to give them a start so that they may be in a position to pay their annuities; and whether their cases will be considered previous to the vesting of the estate?

Mr. BIRRELL

The reply to the first paragraph of the question is in the affirmative. These cases will be considered by the Estates Commissioners when they are dealing with this estate.

Mr. MEEHAN

further asked whether the Estates Commissioners have received an application from John M'Goey, of Kildoosk, Manorhamilton, an evicted tenant on the Clements estate, county Leitrim, for a grant to enable him to repair his house and stock his farm and thus place him in a position to pay his annuities; and whether such will be granted previous to the vesting of the estate?

Mr. BIRRELL

The reply to the first paragraph of the question is in the affirmative. M'Goey's application will be considered by the Estates Commissioners when they are dealing with this estate.

Mr. SCANLAN

asked the Chief Secretary the number of estates in county Sligo acquired by the Congested Districts Board and Estates Commissioners since the passing of the Land Act of 1909, giving the name of the landlord in each case?

Mr. BIRRELL
