asked the Secretary to the Treasury what were the total Grants of the Board of Education last year to the following universities; and what was the total income of the different universities and the salaries of the different principals or vice-chancellors, namely: Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and St. Andrews?

Mr. ROBERTSON

The Board of Education do not make Grants to Scottish Universities. The total Grants to universities in 1912–13 were £82,000 from Vote 7, Class IV., besides £30,000 from the Local Taxation (Scotland) Account. The total income of the several universities for the year 1910–11, the last year for which published accounts have been laid before Parliament was:—

The Treasury have no exact information as to the present salaries of the principals or vice-chancellors.
