HC Deb 01 April 1913 vol 51 cc225-6W
Mr. NOEL BUXTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received any information from His Majesty's Consuls in European Turkey showing that an urgent need for relief of destitution arising from the war still continues in Thrace and Macedonia; and, if so, whether he is able to indicate the nature and extent of the distress, the relief of which would be advantageously provided by the British relief funds?

Sir E. GREY

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. According to the information that has reached sue, I have only too good reason to believe that the distress and destitution in Thrace and Macedonia are still acute. The sums that have hitherto been provided are not sufficient to meet all the demands of the situation, and there is still great need of funds to be expended on the relief of the suffering, without distinction of race or creed.

Mr. NOEL BUXTON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to what extent the Governments of Greece, Servia, and Bulgaria are providing for the relief of destitution arising from the war in the occupied provinces of European Turkey?

Sir E. GREY

I have no definite information that any considerable work of this nature is as yet being undertaken.
