HC Deb 28 October 1912 vol 43 c65W
Mr. CROOKS

asked the Home Secretary what steps, if any, are being taken to legalise whist drives, or if any action is being taken with regard to the petition presented to the House praying Parliament to amend the Law relating to whist drives some months since; and are the public warned that they are illegal?

Mr. McKENNA

I must refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by me on the 24th inst. to the hon. Member for North Lambeth on this subject. The recent judicial decision which my hon. Friend no doubt has in mind was not a decision that a whist drive is always and in all circumstances unlawful. The Court expressly limited its decision to the conditions existing in the case which came before it.
