HC Deb 24 October 1912 vol 42 c2392W
Mr. BUTCHER

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been drawn to the difficulties and delay that have arisen in applying the provisions of the Shops Act, 1912, to waiters and waitresses in hotels and other persons employed in premises for the sale of refreshments; whether he has considered the provisions of a Bill introduced into this House on 18th June, 1912, for amending the Shops Act, 1912, and removing the difficulties above referred to; and whether, in view of the urgency of the case, the Government will give facilities for passing that Bill or some Government Bill for a like purpose into law before the close of the present Session?

Mr. McKENNA

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on this subject in the House on the 9th May. I have considered the provisions of the Bill referred to and see no objection to them, and while I can make no promise, I hope it may be found possible to pass the Bill into law during the present Session.
