HC Deb 25 November 1912 vol 44 c829W
Mr. HUGH BARRIE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it has now been decided what allowance is to be paid to sub-postmasters in Ireland for the extra duties imposed upon them under the National Insurance Act; and whether this allowance will take effect as from the commencement of these duties?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

Provisional payments are now being made to scale payment sub-postmasters for their services in connection-with the issue and renewal of contribution cards under the National Insurance Act at the rate of ½d. for every first issue of a card and ½d. for every renewal. It has not yet been possible to come to a decision as to the payment to be made for the work of stocking and selling insurance stamps, but the matter is being actively pursued. In both eases the payments will be adjusted as from the commencement of the service.
