HC Deb 04 November 1912 vol 43 cc860-2W
Mr. RUPERT GWYNNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India through which firms silver has been purchased for the Government of India since the year 1900?

Mr. H. BAKER

The purchases by the Secretary of State for India of silver for the Government of India have, prior to the present year, been made for the most part through the firms of Mocatta and Goldsmid and Sharps and Wilkins. Purchases have also been made, to a much smaller extent, from the Chartered Bank of India, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, and the London City and Midland Bank.

Mr. ROBERT HARCOURT

asked the Under-Secretary for India what purchases of silver were made in London by the India, Office before the present year, and at what dates and prices?

Mr. H. BAKER

The reply is as follows:—
