HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 c925W
Mr. FIELD

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty whether he will arrange that in future the tenders for meat contracts for the Navy shall contain the term home-fed instead of home-killed?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I am afraid that I cannot give the undertaking asked for. Whilst by far the greater proportion of the meat supplied to the Navy is home-fed, the imposition of the restriction suggested by the hon. Member would be undesirable in cases where the demand is very fluctuating, and where only very short notice can sometimes be given.

Mr. FIELD

also asked the Under-Secretary for War whether he will arrange that in future the tenders for meat contracts for the Army shall contain the term home-fed instead of home-killed?

Colonel SEELY

It is not proposed to make any change in this respect in regard to contracts for the supply of meat.
