HC Deb 07 March 1912 vol 35 cc688-9W
Mr. CASSEL

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he would be prepared to furnish a detailed statement showing how the estimated deficiency on the Metropolitan police fund for the years 1912–13 and 1913–14 is arrived at?

Mr. McKENNA

I do not think it would be desirable to do so. My predecessors have always held it undesirable to publish estimates of police expenditure, and Parliament has never required it. The accounts of the Metropolitan police are by statute presented to Parliament every year in the month of April.
