HC Deb 19 June 1912 vol 39 c1807W
Mr. AMERY

also asked the Home Secretary whether he has any information to give with regard to the ill-treatment of an old man called Patrick Sullivan by peaceful picketing outside Tilbury station on the morning of 13th June?

Mr. McKENNA

I have obtained a re port from the Essex police, whose jurisdiction includes Grays and Tilbury, where the alleged assaults occurred. It appears to be the case that Sullivan visited Tilbury on the 13th, was stopped by pickets, and was given the so-called "pass" to a lodging-house. The police have not, however, been able to obtain any evidence confirmatory of the statement that he was assaulted or injured; and they report, after exhaustive inquiry, that he did not go to any chemist to have his head patched up.
