Tidal Basin, E., where the licence was refused by the justices on redundant grounds on the 6th May, 1910, compensation amounting to £3,054 being paid on the 9th June, 1911, the licence becoming extinct on the 16th June, 1911, and the premises. registered under the Licensing Act as a club on the 14th May, 1912; and what steps do the Government propose to remedy this evil and to bring clubs under the supervision of the licensing justices?
§ Mr. McKENNAThe facts are, I understand, substantially as stated in the first part of the question; but I have no information indicating that the opening of this particular club constitutes an evil. On the general point, the Government retain the opinion, which was embodied in the Licensing Bill of 1908, that the registration of clubs ought to be made a matter for the discretion of the magistrates.
