§ Mr. CROFTasked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the imprisonment of Mr. Arthur B. Desmond at Burnley; and, if so, whether he would state on what grounds this man was so imprisoned?
§ Mr. McKENNAI presume the hon. Member refers to the proceedings at Bury. I have inquired into the circumstances, and I find that the justices were satisfied that the defendant had used language which would tend to cause a breach of the peace, and ordered him to be bound over in the sum of £10 to be of good behaviour. He was imprisoned because he refused to be bound over.
