HC Deb 12 June 1912 vol 39 cc996-7W
Sir JOHN SPEAR

asked the Secretary to the Treasury what was the amount of money collected from carriage and motor car licences in the county of Devon during the year 1911, and the proportion of such money handed over to the road authorities in the county during the same period towards the cost of the repair of the main roads?

Mr. MASTERMAN

The amount collected in the county of Devon in the financial year 1910–11 for motor car and carriage licence duties was £22,846. Out of this amount the county would receive under Section 18 of the Revenue Act, 1911, a sum equivalent to the produce of the licence duty on carriages, including motor cars, in 1908–9, and the balance (less cost of collection) would go to the Road Improvement Fund. With regard to the latter part of the question, I would also refer the hon. Member to the answer given to him by my predecessor on the 2nd November last. I understand the Road Board are in communication with the county council.
