HC Deb 12 June 1912 vol 39 c999W
Captain JESSEL

asked the Home Secretary whether chemists who undertake dispensing under the National Insurance Act will be permitted to refuse to supply drugs during the time the shop is closed?

Mr. MASTERMAN

It is the duty of each local insurance committee to make such arrangements as will secure that an adequate and convenient supply of drugs, medicines, and appliances is provided in each area for the service of the insured. The details of the arrangements made to this end, primarily with chemists but in exceptional cases with medical practitioners also, rest in the discretion of the local insurance committees, subject to the approval of the Insurance Commissioners.
