HC Deb 11 December 1912 vol 45 cc485-6W
Mr. STANIER

asked the Secretary for Foreign Affairs whether he can give any official information regarding the sentence given to the Portuguese corporal who murdered the Reverend A. J. Douglas in East Africa?

Mr. ACLAND

According to a telegram received from the Governor of Nyassaland who was represented at the trial, the sen- tence was solitary confinement for one year; but, according to a telegram received from His Majesty's Minister at Lisbon, it was one year in a military convict prison or alternatively sixteen months' service in a disciplinary company. The Governor of Nyassaland is sending a report by mail.
