HC Deb 27 November 1911 vol 32 cc174-5W
Sir JOHN LONSDALE

asked the Chief Secretary whether, having regard to the decision of the Government to institute an inquiry into the cost of living, and the fact that the Chief Commissioner of the Dublin Metropolitan Police has authorised the preparation of a memorial asking for an increased rate of pay for that force, he will permit representations to be made on behalf of the Royal Irish Constabulary with reference to the sufficiency or otherwise of their present scale of remuneration?

Mr. BIRRELL

The scale of pay of the rank and file of the Royal Irish Constabulary was revised so lately as 1908 by an Act of Parliament based on the recommendations of a Departmental Committee, which went very carefully into the whole matter. It is too soon to reopen the question.
