HC Deb 29 June 1911 vol 27 cc701-2W
Mr. O'DONNELL

asked the Chief Secretary whether the Estates Commissioners will arrange with the Congested Districts Board for the reinstatement of Mr. Daniel Murphy, evicted tenant, formerly of Dronim, Milltown, county Kerry, in some of the vacant land which they have on hand?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners received an application from Daniel Murphy for reinstatement in a holding formerly occupied by him and now in the occupation of a tenant who has purchased it under the Land Purchase Acts, and have noted his name for consideration in the allotment of any untenanted land which may be acquired by the Commissioners. His name has also been included in the list supplied to the Congested Districts Board of evicted tenants suitable to be provided with holdings.

Mr. LARDNER

asked the Chief Secretary what steps the Estates Commissioners propose to take for the purpose of providing James Quinn, of Derrintony, Rosslea, county Fermanagh, with a farm instead of that from which he was evicted in the townland of Drumummery in the year 1893; whether he is aware that this man purchased the farm in Drumummery about forty years ago, and that he expended a considerable sum of money in reclamation of waste land and in planting trees and in building and drainage, and that he was evicted for non-payment of rent which he was unable to meet owing to the death of cattle, and that since his eviction he has been earning his livilihood as a labourer; and whether, having regard to these facts, the Estates Commissioners, if they cannot provide him with a new farm, will give him such compensation as will enable him to purchase another farm?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners received an application from James Quinn for reinstatement in a holding on the Crowe and Morrell estate, county Monaghan, formerly occupied by him and now in the possession of a tenant purchaser, and after inquiry and consideration decided to take no action in the matter.

Mr. O'DONNELL

asked the Chief Secretary whether the Estates Commissioners have inquired into the case of Mrs. Julia Dunleavy, of Milltown, county Kerry, evicted tenant on the Godfrey estate; whether the present occupant of the farm is prepared to treat for its surrender; and whether, under those circumstances, an inspector will be immediately sent to investigate and report on the case?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners cannot trace the receipt of any application for reinstatement from Mrs. Julia Dunleavy.
