HC Deb 21 February 1911 vol 21 cc1878-9W
Mr. NEWMAN

asked whether attention has been called to the case of Frank Mills, a postman, residing at Mitcham Lane, Streatham, who was charged, convicted, and sentenced to a month's imprisonment or a fine of 40s. at the South-Western Court as a suspect loitering in High Road, Streatham; and whether this employé of the General Post Office will, consequent on his conviction, lose his position and means of livelihood?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I find on inquiry that the facts are as stated in the first part of the question. The man was arrested at 1.45 a.m. by two police constables, who saw him trying to enter several lock-up shops. The question whether, in these circumstances, he should be retained in the public service rests with the Postmaster-General.
