HC Deb 21 February 1911 vol 21 cc1864-5W
Mr. ELLIS DAVIES

asked whether Carnarvon slate is now included among the slates that may be used on public works in Ireland; and, if not, to whom application should be made for its inclusion on the official list?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

It is the practice of the Board of Public Works, Ireland, to indicate the standard of slate they require by mentioning some slate known in the trade as reaching that standard. It is then open to a contractor to propose to use a slate from another quarry, and provided the Board are satisfied as to the qualities of the slate proposed to be used they place no restrictions on their contractors as to the place from which the supply is obtained.
