HC Deb 13 February 1911 vol 21 cc829-30W
Mr. WILLIAM ABRAHAM

asked the Chief Secretary whether his attention had been called to the dissatisfaction created amongst the general body of traders and ratepayers in Trinity Ward, Dublin, by the proposal to erect a police station at the entrance to Great Brunswick Street, which would prove most detrimental to the business of the neighbourhood; and if he will recommend the Board of Works to select another site less injurious to the business interests of the residents of the locality?

Mr. BIRRELL

I have received a resolution objecting to the erection of the bar- rack on the proposed site, but the Chief Commissioner of Police informs me that for a great number of years there has been a police station and barracks close by. It is now decided to close the present barracks and to build another and finer building, which I hope will be an ornament to the neighbourhood and will improve the value of the surrounding property. Government have only followed the good example set by the Dublin Corporation in this matter, who have erected also in the immediate vicinity their principal fire station.
