HC Deb 13 February 1911 vol 21 c838W
Major ARCHER-SHEE

asked the Secretary for War whether he is aware that a man named Thomas Galliers, who was enlisted at St. George's Barracks on the 23rd January last, had six teeth extracted before enlistment at the recruiting station without any anæsthetic at one sitting; and whether it is the usual practice at the recruiting station to carry out dental operations of this magnitude without anæsthetics?

Mr. HALDANE

It appears, on inquiry, that this man had a few loose roots—the remains of three teeth—extracted in order to render him fit for enlistment. The man attended two days later without suffering any ill effects. No anæsthetic was used by the dentist, who apparently was unaware that he was permitted to make a charge for this.
