HC Deb 11 December 1911 vol 32 cc2103-4W
Mr. LARDNER

asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will state the practice of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue in reference to any matters which may arise in connection with Licence Duty payable out of licensed premises situate in Ireland, as to whether such cases are dealt with by the Commissioners of Inland Revenue at the Custom House, Dublin, or at Somerset House; whether he is aware that the delay and inconvenience have been caused to persons interested in these matters in Ireland by the fact that where communications were addressed to the Inland Revenue authorities at the Custom House, Dublin, they were informed that the matter was being dealt with in London, and where communications were addressed to London the reply received was that the matter was being dealt with by the Commissioners in Dublin; and whether he can see his way to take such steps as will obviate the recurrence of incidents of this character?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The Commissioners of Customs and Excise in London are responsible for the assessment and collection of the duties on Liquor Licences throughout the United Kingdom. All cases which cannot be dealt with by the local officials under their standing instruction have, therefore, to be submitted to the Commissioners at the Custom House, London. If the hon. Member will furnish me with the facts of the particular case which he has in mind I will have inquiry made.
