HC Deb 04 December 1911 vol 32 cc1182-3W
Mr. WATT

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether it is now possible to grant the discharge of Private Gilbert MacLeod (404), of the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, in view of the facts that he has now served four years, including twelve months in the Militia, that he is the oldest of the family of his mother, who is a widow and has to earn a livelihood for herself and the rest of her family, one of whom is a cripple, and that work has been promised him in Glasgow immediately on receiving his discharge?

Colonel SEELY

The regulations under I which a free discharge can be granted only apply to soldiers serving at home. Private G. MacLeod is now serving in India, and therefore cannot be granted a free discharge.
