HC Deb 04 December 1911 vol 32 c1177W
Mr. CARR-GOMM

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether Messrs. B. Noakes and Co., of Spa Road, Bermondsey, are on the Admiralty list of contractors; if so, whether he is aware that they are paying wages amounting to £1 a week of fifty-four hours; and, in view of the fact (hat under the Fair-Wages Resolution such work would be paid at £1 5s. 6d. for forty-eight hours, whether he will cause inquiry to be made with a view to striking this firm off the list of contractors if the facts are as stated?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative; to the second part, that no information on the subject or complaint against the firm has been received at the Admiralty; to the third part, that if a complaint is received, giving particulars as to the class of labour in question, and the grounds for supposing that the Fair-Wages Clause is not being complied with, the matter shall be investigated.
