HC Deb 24 April 1911 vol 24 cc1560-1W
EARL of KERRY

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether any provision is at present made under the Poor Law for stammering children; and, if not, whether the Government has any such provision in contemplation?

Mr. BURNS

The question of the treatment of stammering children is at present receiving the consideration of the Board of Education, and I understand that some local education authorities make special arrangements for dealing with this defect. A large proportion of the children relieved under the Poor Law attend the public elementary schools, and the Poor Law schools are inspected by the Board of Education. I am not aware of any special experiment in dealing with stammering being instituted in any Poor Law school.
