HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 cc412-3W
Lieut.-Colonel MALONE

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he has received a letter dated 11th April from the town clerk of the Metropolitan Borough of Hackney concerning the floods which have taken place owing to the overflow of the River Lea; whether he is aware that such flooding is detrimental to the health of the borough and has resulted in numbers of houses having closing orders served upon them owing to the premises being rendered unfit for human habitation; and whether he will state what steps the Government are taking to carry out such work as may be necessary to prevent the recurrence of such flooding in the future?

Dr. ADDISON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As I have already stated in reply to previous questions on this subject, the flooding in the-Lea Valley is being investigated by one of ray engineering inspectors.
