HC Deb 21 March 1910 vol 15 c916W
Mr. LLOYD

asked the Under-Secretary for the Colonies, whether any arrangements had been come to between His Majesty's Government and the Union Castle line regarding an extension of steamer service to East Africa; and, if so, whether he would state the nature of those arrangements?

Colonel SEELY:

No formal agreement has been entered into between His Majesty's Government and the Union Castle line, but, the company having arranged for an extension of steamer service to East Africa from the beginning of the year, the Government are endeavouring to support it in its enterprise by sending their officials and stores by the company's steamers whenever this can be conveniently done.
