HC Deb 20 April 1910 vol 16 c2281W
Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture if he will state approximately what success has attended the Small Holdings and Allotments Acts, 1907; how many persons have been provided with land; how many acres have been acquired under voluntary arrangement, and how many acres under compulsory orders; how many persons were provided with land under the Allotments and Small Holdings Act, 1892; and how much land was acquired under the provisions of that Act during the fifteen years it was in operation?

Sir E. STRACHEY

Sixty-two thousand acres were acquired or agreed to be acquired up to 31st December last, and of that area 2,349 acres were acquired by compulsion. The number of persons actually provided with land at that date was 2,795. Schemes for the acquisition of a further 13,000 acres have been submitted to the Board this year, and others will, no doubt, be received in due course. The area acquired under the Small Holdings Act of 1892 was 881 acres.
