HC Deb 12 April 1910 vol 16 c1214W
Mr. FIELD

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether, in view of the Board of Trade Report on the cost of living of the working classes, the wages of the labourers employed in the Ordnance, Survey, Ireland, will be increased; and whether the minimum wage for adult workers of all classes will be raised to 24s. a week, which is the minimum adopted by the Irish Federation of Government Workers?

Sir E. STRACHEY

No employé on the Ordnance Survey, labourer or otherwise, is paid on a lower scale than that prescribed by the Resolution on the Fair Wages Clause which was agreed to in the House last year. The Board do not see their way to make the alteration suggested.

Mr. FIELD

asked whether a scale of pay could be promulgated for surveyors in the Ordnance Survey, whereby they would proceed by annual increments from the minimum to the maximum of the scale?

Sir E. STRACHEY

The scale of pay of surveyors, as recently issued, provides definite rates of pay at definite periods of service. It is not proposed to modify it in the manner suggested.
