HC Deb 04 April 1910 vol 16 c179W
Mr. LYNCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether his attention has been called to the amount of extra police taxation imposed on account of the Macnamara estate, in Ennistymon, West Clare; and whether, in view of the peaceable condition of the community and the prospects of satisfactory settlement with the tenants on the entire estate, he will consider the circumstances favourable to removal of this burden?

Mr. BIRRELL

Fifty extra police were sent to this locality in 1908. The number has been reduced, as the state of the district improved, and only twelve men are now left. The force will be further reduced by degrees, provided the improvement continues; but it cannot yet be wholly withdrawn.
