§ Mr. CHARLES PRICEasked the Postmaster-General whether there has recently been a great increase in split duties in the Edinburgh office; and whether, in view of the Select Committee's recommendations that these duties should be restricted as far as possible, he will make inquiry as to the reason for the increase in the number of these duties at Edinburgh?
§ Mr. BUXTONI assume that my hon. Friend refers to the telegraph office at Edinburgh, where it was recently found necessary to increase the number of split duties from 19 to 24 in order to adjust the staff to the requirements of the work, and to obviate the performance of overtime. Advantage will be taken of any opportunity which may offer for effecting a reduction.
