HC Deb 21 September 1909 vol 11 cc381-2W
Mr. COOPER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give the number of licensed houses in England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and the county of London rated at and under £30 a year, the number between £30 and £50, and the number above £50?

Mr. LLOYD-GEORGE

I assume that by "licenced houses" my hon. Friend re- fers to public-houses. It is not possible to arrange public-houses exactly in the valuation groups mentioned in the question, but probably the following approximate figures, which relate to the year 1907–8, will serve his purpose:—

Annual value under £30. Annual value £30 and under Annual value £50 and over.
England and Wales (including London) 17,900 13,420 32,070
Scotland 1,220 1,560 3,710
Ireland 14,860 1,400 850
London 1 20 5,080
